A tale in the desert seeds4/27/2023 ![]() ![]() Recently the last seven tests were released and even now, players are working to complete them. Working together in what has to be one of the most incredibly detailed crafting systems ever placed in an MMO, the virtual citizens of A Tale in the Desert have, over the past year and a half, successfully completed virtually every task the Stranger has laid in front of them - even when he tried to subtly sabotage them. The Pharaoh accepts that bet and starts marshalling his people to complete tests in seven different areas ranging from monument construction to religious observances. A demonic stranger hears the Pharaoh's boast and comes to him, laying a bet that Egypt can't come together enough to pass all of the tests he'll put in front of them. The place is ancient Egypt and the Pharaoh believes that the Egyptians have it within their power to create the ultimate society. While most MMOs are designed to be open-ended experiences that last forever, A Tale in the Desert was unique in that it was actually designed to have an ending. ![]() While the game's lack of combat and social focus may have turned off power-gamers and its low profile kept it from reaching some of the more casual MMO fans, A Tale in the Desert has nonetheless thrived and prospered, supported by a cadre of incredibly loyal fans who have slowly developed a model society that is on the verge of actually finishing an MMO! Here's an MMO that completely eschews combat in favor of creating a completely craft-oriented, puzzle-solving game where the ultimate goal wasn't to become an uber-death-dealing badass, but to work cooperatively with other players to help create the perfect society. The original A Tale in the Desert practically defined the term "under the radar".
